Happy Christmas

Is 2016 over yet?

I have been doing nothing but working my butt off since April. My average week consists of 5-6 work days at 10-16 hours each day. Thursday night into Friday I have 6 hours between shifts so I got about 3 hours of sleep and had to work 16 hours on Friday. Suffice it to say I. Am. Exhausted.

But other than working a lot, I had been looking forward to Christmas, and since I have to work Christmas Day, my family had Christmas today.

It’s not the first year we’ve done it on Christmas Eve, but it’s the first we’ve done it out of necessity instead of excitement and impatience. I slept for about 12 hours, got up, worked out, then headed over to my mom’s.

My angsty teenage little brother sat on the couch glued to his phone while my mom and I ate pizza and caught up and then we opened gifts.

I don’t like that as we grow older the magic in our lives just disappears. Christmas used to be a sparkly, warm, magical time that I like to relive in classic movies and perfect photographs, but in reality it’s not the same as it was when we were 3. The little bit that’s left is in those traditions. Pizza as our Christmas dinner, watching A Christmas Story on repeat on TBS, watching the Disney Christmas Parade (I was there for the filming this year!!!), and eating cinnamon rolls for Christmas breakfast (mine are in the fridge waiting for morning).

No, Christmas isn’t the same as when I was 3, but 20 years later I’m still in love with the colorful lights, the movies and food, the traditions, and of course getting to spend time with my family and friends. I can’t believe how many people think of me to wish a Happy Christmas to and even get me a gift.

I hope that you all have a happy Christmas and take a moment to just breathe in the moments you’re spending with family.

I stopped in my local Panera this morning and one of the cashiers asked what my Sailor Moon tattoo said. I then noticed that she had a tattoo that said “o’hana” in Lilo & Stitch inspired style and a Deathly Hallows tattoo. Since I also have a Disney and Deathly Hallows tattoo we instantly bonded. All barriers came down. We could have instantly become friends.

And that is what I love about tattoos. They don’t have to have a special meaning behind them. You get them because you like them and you want them. They show a side of you that would otherwise be harder to show off. They show what you like. They show a deeper side of you. And I think that’s brave to be so open with who you are to wear that stuff permanently on your body where everyone can see; to go “I like this thing, I’m gonna have it sewn into my skin in ink where it’ll sit forever for everyone to see.”

People get tattoos for different reasons, but whatever the reason they show the world who you are, and I don’t mean in the way people in the past have perceived people with tattoos. We aren’t thugs or dangerous people. We’re people who like art and things so much we get it put onto our bodies for everyone to see and to remind us of who we are, why we are, who we’ve lost, what we like, what we believe in, etc.

I’ve never once regretted my tattoos. Even now that I’m in a job that doesn’t allow me to have visible tattoos and I am going to have to spend my summer wearing long sleeves I don’t regret getting them. Because off the clock I can show them off again and have opportunities to find like-minded people like that girl in Panera. Tattoos bring people together. I hope that one day they aren’t demonized by employers anymore. Until then, I’ll spend my other 128 hours of the week showing my tattoos off, getting more, meeting new people, and making friends just by saying, “ohmigosh I love your tattoo!”

new year’s eve

I did it. I missed maybe 5 days in total, but I essentially took a picture for every day of the year. I don’t think I’ll be doing that again this year, but I did it. Now I gotta assemble them all into a photo book. 😀

Year in Review

2015 is coming to an end. My weekly photos post for last week and these few days will be up New Years Day (hopefully).

And looking back I can’t believe how much has happened in the year and also how fast it went by. Think of everything you’ve accomplished this year and quickly it’s coming to a close and things suddenly seem a bit more possible than before.

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.” -Ferris Bueller

So, a quick recap before we start planning 2016:

I met some really amazing people from Japan and got to help them with their English and learn American culture while I learned a bit more Japanese and more about their culture. I miss my friends so much! IMG_1035

I got Zumba certified and danced every chance I could with my awesome friends that I also miss very much. Mostly in the first half of the year I met amazing people and then had to say goodbye to all of them.

I had my Lavender graduation in June even though I wasn’t officially done until December, but at least I had some kind of a ceremony. And it wasn’t 3 hours long in the blazing heat and super impersonal.

We went to Dapper Day in Disneyland and I can’t wait until I can go to another one because it was super fun!

Back to the Future Day was this year so naturally, we dressed up for it and Halloween.

I started and finished both Crush60 and Crush at Home. And I grew my hair back.

I graduated college and moved away. So the second half of the year was getting closer with other amazing people and then having to say goodbye to them. But I moved closer to my best friend so I can’t complain too much.

And of course, Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens finally opened and so far I’ve seen it twice. A third time is happening soon in 3D!

I learned a lot about myself this year. I became vegan and more in tune with my body, and I came out to myself and others as polyamorous. I had a few final adventures in college like walking in the ice and snow with some friends to see our other friends’ musical revue, spending time at bars with good company, changed jobs a few times, graduated from college, and finally, FINALLY got out of that crummy college town. I miss being able to walk to the bars from my apartment, but I’m sure when I live in the city instead of the ‘burbs I’ll be able to do that again.

I’m super terrified of being an adult now. I have no clue what I’m doing. I feel like I should be starting a new quarter next week with everyone else and working in my crummy college dining hall, but instead I’m working in retail far away from there and not going back to school. All I’ve ever done is school! But I’d rather be done with it than having to do more. I’m very curious to see what happens in 2016 since I have absolutely no plan whatsoever. It’s terrifying but exciting.

Week #50 of 2015

Dec 6

I tried working out in my new apartment gym but it’s way too tiny and lacking in equipment for me to do any version of Crush. I just need to get hired as a Zumba instructor so I get a free gym membership.

Dec 7

I was back in my college town on Monday so I got to have my beloved banana ice cream. I can’t get enough of that stuff.

Dec 8

I got an awesome new workout shirt that says “Merry Liftmas” and it looks like an ugly Christmas sweater but it’s awesome.

Dec 9

Wednesday was a girl’s night and I made a lame vlog about my day.

Dec 10

Apple decided this picture was taken in China.

Dec 11

I had what might have been my last workout at my university’s gym on Friday. It was weird to leave it because I learned so much about health and fitness in the past 3 years and I experimented with what I learned in that gym so it’s hard. I might be able to squeeze one or two in this week between moving but otherwise I’ll be moving and going to my new gym in my new town.

Dec 12

Friday and Saturday was spent on the floor in my new apartment. There is no furniture in it so I made a nest of blankets on the floor and tried to sleep. I learned I’m not 12 anymore and it’s very difficult to sleep on the floor now.

(there is a lot more blue in these pictures than I realized…)
