Mission Breakout

This trip was very much a mission to breakout from my stressful daily routine. Get up, try to ease into the day with some yoga, eat my usual banana ice cream for breakfast, and then fling myself head on into my chaotic job where we’re either all shouting at each other or escaping into back rooms to try to breathe for at least a second.
I had missed going to Disneyland in May and my annual pass was starting to gather dust, so I booked a hotel, packed a bag, and go on a plane. Before I knew it was dripping in sweat (Washingtonians are not used to that big yellow thing in the sky. Especially not after the winter we had this year) but standing in front of the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout ride that took over the Tower of Terror.

I’d been pretty upset they were getting rid of the ToT for this new ride but decided to give it a chance.
A chance was all it took.
I rode that thing 5 times, and each time was different than the one before. Seriously, there are different audio, video, and drop sequences. And it is beautiful. Being the emotional nerd that I am, I had my hands over my mouth and dare I say a tear or two in my eyes as I screamed on the first go around.
Surprisngly, the longest I waited out of all 5 times was only about 55 minutes. Radiator Springs Racers still has a longer line.
I should know better by now than to doubt Disney to create amazing things. They have this unmatchable ability to completely immerse you into a new world by covering every single detail, including the ones you didn’t even think they would cover and probably won’t even notice (like the smells they pump out on Main Street). And I am impressed by how far technology has taken us. The video screens in the queue for the pre ride shows were CRYSTAL CLEAR and CRISP which usually unnerves me (especially when the TV shows on these fancy screens are from years before those screens were even invented) but it works for the fictional world in which the Guardians live.
True to the GotG vibe, you launch immediately into the ride instead of the slow, suspense and fear building pace that ToT took, with immediate drops and of course 80s music.

I spent my weekend mostly in Hollywoodland. With the Season of the Force over in Disneyland and new Marvel things setting up shop there it was the perfect getaway. While I love escaping into the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy, I needed a more heroic escape this weekend to a world where I could pretend that everything bad happening could be fixed by a bunch of hot people in spandex with large muscles, great catchphrases, and witty banter. And I got to meet Black Widow so it was a good weekend.
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end so here I sit, on the airplane home, where I’ve just been informed that we’ll be touching down shortly. I hope I brought some of the sun and heat back with me.
Until next time

In Summer!

Well, they did it.

Back in September I made this video in reaction to the announcement that the Aladdin-A Musical Spectacular show would be leaving and a Frozen show would be taking over. I was highly skeptical. Yes, Frozen has a lot of hype. Yes, they won’t stop shoving it in our faces. But they had already said that Aladdin was going away for Toy Story, a musical that already existed and would require less preparation to move in, unlike Frozen which would need someone to adapt the script for a short stage musical, hire a team, cast actors, rehearse, etc.

So I said I would believe it when I saw it. And then January 11th came and Aladdin was gone.

Now, we have an actual opening date for Frozen: May 27th, 2016.

On their blog you can find a video clip going behind the scenes at the rehearsal process and making of.

I am as sick of Frozen as everyone else. My cat hates it. If I’m lonely I will sing Let it Go because she runs over to yell at me to stop and then sits with me a while to make sure I don’t start singing again. It’s kind of evil but I gotta have my kitty love. The hype has long overstayed its welcome, however, I am a musical/theater/film nerd so I am looking forward to seeing how they adapted this for a short stage show. I am going to miss the Genie and all of his jokes. I think that’s what made the Aladdin musical so successful for so long, and I’m not sure that Frozen lends itself to that same comedy.

But, I will wait for it to open and for me to see it maybe in three years* in person unless it comes up on YouTube before then before I judge it.

*I’m going for 1 day in September, and to WDW in 2017, so I probably won’t have time to see it until my next longer DL trip in 2018.

Flashback Friday: September ’15 Disney Trip

Because I am the queen at procrastination I let these pictures sit on my camera until today. You know, like 4 months after they were taken. I love my iPhone, but I forget how nice an actual camera can take pictures. The iPhone is just really convenient.

All of those little Mickey details in the Disneyland Hotel were just too cute. Hopefully some day I’ll get to stay there again. I think it’s my favorite of their 3 resort hotels.

I’m especially proud of those Carthay Circle pictures. I think I want to blow them up and frame them. At least the one at dusk.

I cannot wait to go back! I don’t know when, but hopefully soon, although I might legitimately be waiting until the opening of Star Wars Land in like 3 years. At this point I’m pretty sure I’m 1/3 fitness, 1/3 smoothie, and 1/3 Disney. If I ever do move to LA expect me to be one of those weekly trip report vloggers because I will be all over that place all the time!

Week #40 of 2015

Sept 27

My knee hates me. I wore that brace for an entire week and it’s finally not hurting all the time anymore.

Sept 28

This is the mug I bought in Disneyland. My mom wanted me to send her a picture. It’s so pretty! Monday I had yoga and class then work. It was long and boring.

Sept 29

I went back to volunteering on Tuesday which is so much fun. But it was also my long work day and I had a Pure Romance party after so I was exhausted by the end of the day.

Sept 30

Wednesday was another long day. I had yoga, volunteering, class, and work. This quarter just might kill me.

Oct 1

I had my Pure Romance launch party on Thursday. It went pretty well and I even sold a few things and booked a few parties. So if anyone in the Central Washington/Seattle area wants to host a party you should let me know!

Oct 2

Netflix added the last season of The Vampire Diaries so I started watching that. I’m hoping to be caught up in time for the new season but I’m not that good at binge watching.

Oct 3

I spent Saturday doing homework, watching Mean Girls, and I made single serving peanut butter cookies as a treat. They’re vegan and really clean and delicious.

How was your week?

Dapper Disney Trip Day 3

I realize this was really like day 5, but I don’t count the first two days on the road because nothing happened and it was kind of boring except for the copious amounts of Lady Gaga and Tim Minchin music.

Anyway, Dapper Day!

Morning, my hair looked super cute all pinned to my head, but they had to be undone and boy were they fluffy! I didn’t bring any hairspray so I just left them so that the California humidity could calm them down and hopefully they could get to a nice level by the end of the day.

The outfit

We made weird faces on rides.

Obligatory photo at the hub

See? my hair looks so much better now!

People actually laughed when they saw us in this picture.

So that’s that! Plus the video that is lacking a point, but I hope you like it.

Thinking Out Loud #24

Thursdays are for thinking out loud!

And boy do I have some thoughts.

Right now they are mostly about eating and sleeping…

My final quarter of college started yesterday. I had one class on campus, though now I have two because I needed one more credit so I’m taking a yoga class at 8am on Mondays and Wednesdays. So far I’ve read an entire screenplay and have to write an 8 page short that I have no ideas for and I have until Monday, which isn’t very long but I’m sure I can do it. Maybe. I hope.

I also have to write an outline for a feature length film by Tuesday. Thankfully I have the idea and it kind of mapped out so once I actually start on that it shouldn’t take long.

I also got a second job on Monday! I am now a Pure Romance consultant, and I have 3 parties next week. My pop the box party and two launch parties where I will hopefully book some real parties because I’m poor and would love to get started on this. It’s really cool because it’s not just about makeup, it’s about education and breaking stigma. We like to pretend that sex isn’t a thing and censor it a lot, and a lot of times sex ed doesn’t go as far as it needs to so a lot of people go out into the world knowing only what movies tell them, which also is not much and most of it not real. Also, the products are awesome. If you live in the Seattle or CWU area and would like to book a party then shoot me a message or click my website. You can also order online through my website: here it is!

So, I’m tackling a lot of stuff and keep thinking, wow, a week ago I was in Disneyland where everything was chill and fun and relaxing. I miss it. I wanna go back. As of right now I have no idea when I’ll be going back. We plan on our next vacation being Hawaii, so it might be a year or two before I return to Disneyland, which makes me sad.

Tomorrow is also my birthday! I have to work, but I’m getting lunch with my mom and then dinner with some friends and drinks with more friends! I was planning on having a birthday week where I just celebrate all week doing little things, but so far I’ve bought myself a mocha and that’s it. Well, I also bought Crush at Home which I love. I go to the gym because I only have 5 lb dumbbells at home and no cardio equipment, and it’s super intense. I need a sweat towel every day I do the program. Maybe I’ll do Mass Effect next and have done all of the Crush programs!

So this was a lot of thinking out loud with no real purpose. Ta-da! Happy Autumn, by the way. The best season.
