Keep it Positive

If you’re in college like me then it’s probably time for finals week. I just had my first final today and I think it went fairly well. I at least passed the class and at this point in my college career that is all I care about. But this week has still been very stressful and it’s only halfway done! I still have a presentation to practice and present, an exam, a paper, and a video to edit. Plus I have to get my food handlers card renewed before the end of finals week which just makes my list of things to do a bit longer. But once I’m done with that I get to be on break until 2015! I need a break, even just after a short break for Thanksgiving. It wasn’t long enough. But, rambling aside, it’s going to be a stressful few weeks for us college folk, and it’s also close to the holidays which adds more stress.

Stop. Don’t freak out. Take a deep breath and keep it positive. You are in charge of how you react to things in your life. I suffer from an anxiety disorder so I try to take extra steps to be calm and positive when things get bad. It doesn’t always work, but I’m proud of myself for at least trying.

You can either lead a positive life or a negative one. Now you can’t be positive all the time. Things will get to you and that’s okay. You wouldn’t be human if you were just positive about everything all the time. But try not to let the negatives rule your life. Finals are stressful, yes, but on the bright side they will pass and hopefully you will too. You have the tools you need to pass, you just have to do it. The holidays can be stressful but think of all the delicious food and prettiness that happens around this time of year. If the food stresses you out then reevaluate your relationship with food and work on making it better.

Find something that helps you de-stress. Take a break. Go for a walk if it’s not too cold or if you like walks in the cold. Go work out. Chat with some friends for a little bit. Or dance it all out.

Alcohol is optional and probably not the best choice if you’ve got a test tomorrow. I’m going to Zumba tonight where I will be able to let out my frustrations to Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” and tomorrow I have yoga which is also a great way to de-stress. It’s very relaxing and helps you connect to your body, and after hours of being bent over computers and facts your body needs some love. Lifting heavy stuff is good if you’re especially frustrated, too. Pushing through that weight can is a great accomplishment which you probably need if you’re feeling down about your grades.

And breaking out in song to your favorite Broadway musicals always helps, too. 🙂
